If you have any interest in neuroscience and neuroplasticity this is a book for you Especially if you are curious about the subject but are not sure where to start Dr Dispenza breaks down the whole system and its processes in an engaging but simultaneously extremely educational way Even if you are not a science geek you'll be able to follow his explanations I must admit that I found the whole physiologyneurology refresher extremely useful This book is followed by Breaking The Habit of Being Yourself How to Lose Your Mind and Create a New One which focuses on putting to practical use the knowledge acuired in this one What is the connection between our mind and our body? Do we really use only a small percentage of our brain's capacity? Where and what is our consciousness? Why are some people able to believe themselves out of terminal diagnosis? And why do most of us fall into the same patterns of behaviorrelationshipsbad habits over and over again? And why does willpower as we think of it has very little to do with any of it?These are some of the uestions addressed in the book Most people are eager to jump into practical applications and self help aspect of these theories but in order to truly get something of Breaking the Habit of Being Yourself I think it's essential to read and UNDERSTAND Evolve your brain It will stimulate and challenge your brain it will change the way you think about your thinking and it will give you the basic understanding of how we learn and form habits in order to later help you try to break some of those habits A wonderful read

Very thought provoking pun intended My oversimplified summary is1 Most of us spend much of our lives on autopilot and are essentially addicted to being ourselves to include our emotions attitudes and most everything that we are2 We build ourselves from childhood in the same way that we learn to ride a bicycle for example It is difficult at first and reuires our utmost attention but we eventually wire our brain so that no conscious thought is necessary other than to decide to ride the bike3 Dr Joe's point is that we do that almost entirely to the degree that for most of us almost everything we are becomes like that that we have no conscious control over our own emotions and attitudes and other aspects of being4 However we can with conscious effort change ourselves5 We can do that by focusing our conscious attention on who and what we want to be or change and then through mental rehearsal and conseuent experience and repetition rewire our brain to BE what we WANT instead of what we let ourselves unconsciously becomeClear as mud?I certainly am going to give it an effort Reminds me very much of the kind of things that Carlos Castenada said through another formInteresting He did kind of lose me in the epilogue Seemed to be reaching a bit too far but then I haven't really studied it or reread it so perhaps that is not a fair assessment Just my initial thought after my first read

I know it seems like this has had a positive impact on people's lives which is awesome but for people that are already aware of the brain and neuroplasticity this will be a bit dull and repetitive Most of the book discusses brain structures what they do and how they work and things we know that influence the brain's functioning It felt a bit like intro to biology all over again There is also a heavy focus on meditation We know the positive effects of it but sometimes the author's ideas were a little extreme for me I'm all for the idea that if you have cancer meditate as much as want and visualize yourself with no cancer but to suggest as a doctor to do that in lieu of any Medical treatment is a bit negligent to me This book seems targeted to people that don't know a ton about biology or psychology that get overwhelmed with obstacles and need help trying to think about how their brain is functioning and how they aren't just helpless bystanders they have the power to evolve as the title denotes

This book is life changing Seriously If you're open to it thoughbut that's the premise of the book to change your thoughts your way of thinking your life I hate to call it a self help book because it really isn't It's than that because it goes deeper and is scientific based but you don't get lost in it A must read if you want to get unstuck

I read this book as I was going through radiation therapy for carcinoid tumors and it gave me a dose of courage and hope that everything was going to turn out okay after allDr Joe Dispenza is perhaps best known for appearing in the film What the BLEEP Do We Know? and its seuel Down the Rabbit Hole That was how I first learned of him and that is why I became interested in reading his book In a nutshell his book describes his own experiences with severe life altering injuries and pain and how he learned to train his brain to function around the injuries allowing him to eventually overcome the injuries and regain full function of his body much to the surprise of everyone who knew the extent of the injuries and the assumption that Dr Dispenza would be in a wheelchair for the rest of his lifeI recommend this book for anyone who is curious about the brain's function and its plasticity which is wonderfully played out in Dispenza's story of his personal experiences and that of others

This could have been made into a 100 page book instead of 510 It was a comprehensive introduction to neurology way too much information In the end there was very little really practical help as in do xyz The advice could have been summarized as you can change your body by focusing your thoughts There were some good nuggets of information in there but 510 pages was too long a commitment to get those infreuent morselsAlso the title is misleading this isn't about 'evolving' your brain ie subjecting your brain to random mutation and survival selection; this was about controlled reprogramming of your brain through intelligence and mindfulness and intentionality

One can think that; are we not conscious living beings? After reading this book it reveals to me that that is not the fact We are all under the influence of our bodies But once we can start using our frontal lobe which means becoming conscious then we are free willed beings The important message in this book is that changing who we are will effect the future generations And it will be our legacy to be a evolved human civilisation We should start to use our frontal lobe I highly recommend this book for all kind of readers

Take Your First Step Toward True EvolutionEver wonder why you repeat the same negative thoughts in your head? Why you keep coming back for from hurtful family members friends or significant others? Why you keep falling into the same detrimental habits or limiting attitudes even when you know that they are going to make you feel bad?Dr Joe Dispenza has spent decades studying the human mind how it works how it stores information Very thought provoking pun intended My oversimplified summary is1 Most of us spend much of our lives on autopilot and are essentially addicted to being ourselves to include our emotions attitudes and most everything that we are2 We build ourselves from childhood in the same way that we learn to ride a bicycle for example It is difficult at first and reuires our utmost attention but we eventually wire our brain so that no conscious thought is necessary other than to decide to ride the bike3 Dr Joe's point is that we do that almost entirely to the degree that for most of us almost everything we are becomes like that that we have no conscious control over our own emotions and attitudes and other aspects of being4 However we can with conscious effort change ourselves5 We can do that by focusing our conscious attention on who and what we want to be or change and then through mental rehearsal and conseuent experience and repetition rewire our brain to BE what we WANT instead of what we let ourselves unconsciously becomeClear as mud?I certainly am going to give it an effort Reminds me very much of the kind of things that Carlos Castenada said through another formInteresting He did kind of lose me in the epilogue Seemed to be reaching a bit too far but then I haven't really studied it or reread it so perhaps that is not a fair assessment Just my initial thought after my first read
